“Välkommen till motståndet“ “Welcome to the Resistance”
“Foreigners put hard against hard. The City, the Country, everything is ours!” was being chanted by the migrants during one of their marches, Sydsvenskan wrote.
The movement,“Welcome to the Resistance,” was formed by a group of Arab Muslim migrants in Malmö after the primary elections.
“We felt we needed to be our own voice. During the campaigns all that it was talked ABOUT was people that looked like us.” said one of the movement’s founder’s Miriam Negash, to Sydsvenskan.
On the movement’s Facebook page, they have published a sort of mission statement; throughout the election campaigns, the Swedish people have “questioned” the “immigrants’ existence.
“We can choose to build our own movement after the election. One where we fight, where we do not let ourselves be pushed around, where we show civic courage, where we stand up for each other; we are immigrants, the second generation. We are adopted.
We are being ratified, Yes, we are suffering. For if there is one thing we know now, no one else will do it for us.”- the mission statement, also translated to Farsi.
