It was in conjunction with the EU summit in Salzburg when Sweden’s Prime Minister Stefan Löfven explicitly pointed out that people didn’t fly, but “move” to Europe to get better life and welfare support.
During the meeting, Austria’s Chancellor Sebastian Kurz, among other things, explained that he wants to resolve immigration issues outside the borders of the EU.
People rescued in the Mediterranean are not to be taken to Europe, but sent back to their homelands.
– Most of these people do not have refugee status. They are not refugees in that sense, Stefan Löfven told SVT news during the meeting.
“They are flying to Europe because they want to have a better life. By flying to Europe they ensure that they do not need to risk of crossing the Mediterranean, “continued the Swedish Prime Minister.
Now, the EU is planning an enhanced cooperation with Egypt to put an end to “boat migrants” trying to get to Europe.
