Geert Wilders says FIRST job as PM will be to call EU referendum

The frontrunner said his first announcement as prime minister would be to call a vote on whether to leave the Brussels bloc and follow in Britain’s footsteps.

He said: “The European Union is a political bureaucratic organisation that took away our identity and our national sovereignty.

“So, I would get rid of the European Union and be a nation-state again.”

He added: “Both the Eurozone and European Union is like the end of the Roman Empire. It’s already started. In a few years’ time it will not be there anymore.

“Don’t ask me if it will be two years or ten years but the end is near. Like the Roman Empire, it’s gone.”

Eurosceptics politicians have already pushed for a Nexit – or Netherlands exit – from the EU in the wake of the UK’s Brexit vote on June 23 last year.

And concerns over the Eurozone, the terror threat posed by open borders and the fragmentation of the Brussels bloc could see the nation pullout of the union.

Mr Wilders savaged the current Dutch government, led by Mark Rutte, for allowing the EU to take over policy areas – particularly regarding migration.

The PVV leader said the EU was over
He said: “I don’t even blame the people for trying to have a better life here.“I blame our government for allowing it to happen; for not saying ‘enough is enough you are not a refugee’, we have to defend our own country and close our borders.“A country without a border is like Holland, because we are a part of the Schengen Treaty, we are not allowed to control our own border.

The European Union is a political bureaucratic organisation that took away our identity and our national sovereignty.

Dutch election frontrunner Geert Wilders

“A country without a border is like a person in a house without a front door.

“Anybody can enter and you cannot ask anybody to leave. So it’s not a real country at all.

“And we have to get it back and people sense that that is what they want.”

The Dutch politician’s comments come after he condemned the EU’s failure to grasp popular anger, claiming the nationalist “genie” will now never be put back in the bottle.

He said: “This patriotic revolution where people want to find their own identity are not racist but want to fight for the preservation of their own people.

Geert Wilders said he would call a vote on whether to leave the Brussels bloc

“Their own country, their own values. Their own money. Their own borders. This is such a positive thing.”

The anti-EU and anti-immigration leader of the Party For Freedom (PVV) is on track to become the next prime minister ahead of the election on March 15.
Current polls reveal the anti-Islam party has 19 per cent of the support – enough to win at least 31 seats in the 150-seat parliament and ten more than their nearest rival. And he warned the EU that the populist revolution was unstoppable – regardless of whether he wins or loses the vote next month.
