EgyptAir Flight MS804 disappears from radar during Paris-Cairo flight
EgyptAir Flight MS804 has disappeared from radar during a flight from Paris to the Egyptian capital of Cairo, the airline says. At least 69 people were on board. (more)
EgyptAir said in a brief statement that Flight 804, an Airbus A320 aircraft, left Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport on late Wednesday evening and was due to arrive at Cairo International Airport on early Thursday morning. A total of 59 passengers and 10 crew are on board.
“An informed source at EGYPTAIR stated that Flight no MS804, which departed Paris at 23:09 (CEST), heading to Cairo has disappeared from radar,” the airline said in a brief statement. “EGYPTAIR media centre will update as more information becomes available.”
The statement added that radar contact was lost at 2:45 a.m. Cairo time when the aircraft was over the Mediterranean Sea at an altitude of 37,000 feet. The aircraft was about 10 miles into Egyptian airspace when it suddenly disappeared from radar. The cause is unknown.
A search and rescue operation is now getting underway.
