Over 1,000 unaccompanied children homeless in Malmö

There are more than 1,000 homeless children in Malmö city alone, reported by a survey from the municipality, according to Sydsvenskan. In addition, the figure increases rapidly.

Last year there were 887 children who were homeless in Malmö. this last year, the figure risen sharply.

Now there are over 1,000 unaccompanied children homeless in the city. This corresponds to one and a half percent of all Malmö children.

“What worries me is the increase in the number of children in homelessness. This is unacceptable, says the municipality of Sedat Arif (S) to Sydsvenskan.

While the number of homeless children has increased dramatically, the number of adults without housing is at about the same level as before. Last year, the number of homeless adults in Malmö was 1,740, compared with 1,752 this year.

In 2015, 1,333 adults and 675 children were homeless in Malmö.

Exactly how many of these are Swedes and immigrants do not appear. However, the municipality has “forced” to buy emergency beds for a number of hotels and youth hostels for SEK 471,000 a day. Malmö city has also bought a giant modular sheet of temporary modular homes on Mobilias parking for a massive 33.8 million kronor.
